Successful Sydney book launch

at the Embassy Conference Centre

On 8 February 2018, the Hon Michael Kirby launched Sydney's first gay Mardi Gras: what brought it on and how it changed us. I take this opportunity to thank those who spoke at the launch:

Jenny Leong MLA,

Penny Sharpe MLC,

Councillor Jess Scully representing the Lord Mayor (Clover Moore),

Assistant Police Commissioner Tony Crandell and

the Hon Michael Kirby.

Ron Austin who came up with the idea of a street party back in 1978, Bruce Notley-Smith MLA and the Hon Mary Gaudron, the first female Justice of Australia's High Court, also attended the launch.

I thank all those who attended the launch especially Steve McLaren who took many photos including those that appear on this page and Silvis for audio-videoing the event.

I particularly want to thank the Hon Michael Kirby for writing the foreword to the book and for launching it, the City of City for the grant and Auspicious Arts for auspicing the application to the City of Sydney.
